Physiotherapy During Pregnancy
Pregnancy places new demands on the body—ligaments soften, posture changes, the pelvic floor works harder, and muscles are challenged in new ways. Our pregnancy physiotherapy services focus on helping you stay comfortable, active and supported throughout these changes.
Our pregnancy physiotherapy services include:
- Musculoskeletal assessment and treatment
To manage common concerns such as pelvic girdle pain, sciatica, rib or back pain, and postural discomfort.
- Pelvic floor physiotherapy
Education and exercises to treat urinary incontinence, improve strength, flexibility, and awareness of the pelvic floor, tailored to your needs.
- Breathing and posture-based strategies
To reduce pain, improve mobility, and support healthy movement patterns as your body adapts.
- Exercise prescription and modification
Safe strengthening, stretching and mobility programs to help you stay active throughout pregnancy.
- Support options
Prescription of braces, support belts or taping techniques where appropriate to promote comfort.
- Birth Preparation
From pelvic floor muscles strengthening and flexibility, to optimizing baby’s position, offering alternative pain relief support and beneficial positions and movements for each stage of labour.
These services help manage symptoms early, support daily activities, and prepare the body for labour.
Physiotherapy for Birth Preparation
Physiotherapy can assist in preparing both the pelvic floor and the rest of the body for labour and delivery. Our individual and group birth‑preparation sessions focus on education, movement and strategies to help you approach birth with confidence.
Birth preparation services include:
- Pelvic floor relaxation and coordination training
Helping the pelvic floor move through its full range—not just strengthening but learning how to relax for birth to allow baby through and reduce perineal trauma.
- Fetal Positioning Optimization
Supporting your body’s balance and alignment to create optimal space for your baby, improving their position, your comfort and contributing to a smoother labour for both of you – even if baby is breech or transverse!
- Birth Problem Solving Education
Learn movements, manual techniques and holistic treatments that optimise your body’s ability to guide baby through your pelvis during labour. Bring your birth partner along for maximal support!
- Breathing, movement and pain-relief techniques
Using what science knows best about our hormones during labour and birth, we provide you with strategies for managing tension, fatigue and pain during labour.
Physiotherapy will support both physical readiness, calm and confident movement during birth.
Postpartum Physiotherapy
After birth, the body goes through significant healing and adjustment. Whether you’ve had a vaginal delivery or caesarean, postpartum physiotherapy helps you recover safely, be more present with your baby and return to the activities you enjoy.
Postnatal physiotherapy services include:
- Pelvic floor recovery
Assessment and individualised exercises to address injury, weakness, heaviness, leaking, or discomfort.
- Abdominal and core rehabilitation
Assessment of abdominal separation (diastasis recti) and targeted exercises to rebuild strength and control.
- Caesarean section scar care
Gentle treatment, mobility work and advice to support healing, reduce pain and scar tightness.
- Pain management
Treatment for common postpartum concerns such as back pain, neck/shoulder discomfort from breast/bottle feeding, wrist pain, or pelvic pain.
- Breastfeeding Concerns
Helping treat common issues such as engorgement, mastitis, poor latching, low milk supply, nipple fissures and others; using education and technologies such as therapeutic ultrasound adjunct to medical treatment.
- Babywearing and ergonomics
Guidance on carrying your baby in a way that keeps your hands free while maintaining your comfort and baby’s safety.
